Web 1.0 Web 2.0 Web 3.0

Web 1.0:

It represents the information published on the web in a static manner. It is just like a typed word document on the web with images and a neat formatting. Hyper-linking of the web-pages and bookmarking were two of the most important aspect of

Web 1.0 web design

. Information on Web 1.0 webpage is not accessible to external editing and so is not dynamic and updated only once in a while by the concerned.

Some web design elements of a Web 1.0 site include:

» Information is displayed on web page as static content.
  » The use of frames.
» The use of tables that is website is in html coding and align elements on a page.
» GIF buttons are used to promote web browsers and other products.
» HTML forms are sent via email. User fills the form on the web design page and related email is sent to concerned person who will then track back through manual emailing.

Web 2.0:

This term was coined by Tim O'Reilly. The information published in web designing 2.0 world is very different from web 1.0. Usability and sharing is given huge importance. The web content published in Web 2.0 world travels like jungle fire. Web 2.0 world has less confusions n chaos, there is precise information and is easily accessible and furthermore building upon that information and it can be shared further too. Widgets and Tagging are two

important features of Web 2.0

. Todays social networking sites, blogs, wikis, video sharing sites, hosted services, web applications, mashups, are all examples of web 2.0.

Following are some features and functionalities of a web 2.0 website :

» Provides the ability to find the required through keyword search feature.

» Links information together into a meaningful information network using the Web, and provides accessibilty through social tools.

» Provides ability of external editing leading to the collaborative work of many rather than just a few web authors. Web users may extend, undo and redo each other's work. In blogs, posts and the comments of individuals are displayed, shared and managed.

» Use of keyword tags to facilitate searching through a particualr website.

» There is use of syndication technologies such as RSS to notify users of content changes.

» Use and implementation of softwares like Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash player, Microsoft Silverlight, Oracle Java, Windows Media, etc. to make the Web not only an application platform but also a document server.

Web 3.0:

Web 3.0 or

Semantic Web

, as its called, is led by W3C that aims at converting the any unstructured documents into a web of data, a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across application, enterprise, and community boundaries, as stated by W3C. The semantic web is aimed to be able to be readily interpreted by machines, so machines can perform works involved in finding, combining, and acting upon information on the web, which has been by far been performed and managed by humans. Web 3.0 will be a maze / network of web application working together homogeneously. The users can do anything and everything they want from a single source on the web. The web 3.0 would act as a giant database and also as a personal assistant to the repeat user, as through it one would be able to type complex sentences for a much more specified search and a repeat user's prefrences would be understood/calculated by the browser itself on basis of all past relevant searches to provide him a straightforward option list at one point of time.

There's much more to the Semantic Web, some clarified some yet under benefit of doubt. Read next related article by our web design company India for more details.
